是狼是狗？

話說紀曉嵐當禮部侍郎的時候，一天尚書和御史連袂來訪。
聊著聊著，突然外頭跑來一隻狗。
尚書心中突生一計要取笑紀曉嵐，便道：「咦，你們瞧那是狼是狗？」(侍郎是狗)
紀曉嵐知道尚書在捉弄他，當下也不動聲色的說：「要分辨狗或狼有兩種方法。一種是看牠的尾巴，尾巴下垂的是狼，上豎是狗。」(尚書是狗)
一旁的御史大笑：「哈哈，我還不知道那是狼是狗呢，原來上豎是狗，哈哈……」（尚書是狗）
此時紀曉嵐不慌不忙的接著又說道：「另一種分辨的方法就是看牠吃什麼。狼是非肉不食，狗則遇肉吃肉，遇屎吃屎。」(御史吃屎)
這下子連御史也噤聲無言了。
