古代有一農夫，秋收時誤把一袋高粱倒入水缸，數日後缸內飄出異香。
農夫很驚詫，且當天夜裡，一位仙人託夢告訴農夫，水缸裡要有三滴鮮血才能飲用，而且這三滴鮮血要分別來自三個不同的人。
隔天一早，農夫在大街上找到一位風度翩翩的書生，農夫說明所求之事，書生慨然應允，滴了第一滴血。
時近中午農夫又再找到一位武將，也滴了一滴血。
眼看太陽要下山了，路上都沒人了。
直到酉時(17-19時)，好不容易走過來一個瘋子，農夫無奈之下，只好讓瘋子滴了第三滴血。
此時，缸內突然飄出奇異的香氣，嚐之醇香溢口，清涼甘冽，嘆為人間美味！
因為是在酉時完成的，農夫乃在缸上寫了個酉字，並在旁邊點了三個點，意思是那三個人的三滴血，所以從那時開始有了「酒」字。
時至今日，喝酒之人，一開始文質彬彬，是在享受那個書生的氣質。
喝到中途，意氣風發，鬥志昂揚，表現的是武將的風範。
一直喝到最後，變得語無倫次，瘋瘋癲癇，就是因為那個瘋子的血作怪的！
