台灣餐飲大王王品集團董事長戴勝益，將捐出80%資產，10%（市值近新台幣1億）留給自己，兩子女各5%。下決定後，戴勝益向太太報告，她1分鐘內立刻同意。對留美的兩子女也說明他的決定，並設有但書，35歲後才能動用。戴勝益說，留給子女各幾千萬元，雖然不多，但他們已比其他人幸運多了，35歲前希望他們靠自己打拚。
戴勝益說，王品股票上市在即， 自己能分萬餘張股票，他內心浮現，自己何德何能擁有這些財富？這是同仁打拚與客人肯定換來的。
捐出的股票中，50%的股息每年約3千萬元，成立「戴水（戴勝益父親戴芳與母親黃水剩）清寒獎助學金」， 這筆錢能提供5千至6千位貧童，每人每年5千元，差不多是國小學童上下學期的學雜費。另外30%，股息每年將近1,500萬到2千多萬元，成立「戴勝益同仁安心基金會」，如有罹患重症、意外而傷殘的員工，王品願意照顧他們一輩子。
至於自己與妻子所剩的金錢，戴勝益自我調侃表示，：以他這麼會花錢，應該夠兩夫妻用到最後。戴勝益說，這樣賺錢才有意思，不只為自己打拚，而是為社會努力。
從小生長在台中清水鄉下，家庭成員眾多，也無任何恆產，平時生活所需，全靠父親外出作點小生意度日。因為六個子女的嗷嗷待哺，生活重擔讓雙親備感壓力， 但清苦日子，卻培養出異於他人深厚的手足感情。
日子雖然過的辛苦，但母親從沒有忽略過對我們的教導。母親一直是我家庭老師，她對我的教導，開啟我的學習之路。在我還未上小學時，母親就握著我的小手，一筆一劃的教我用鉛筆寫出「戴勝益」三個字。
在小學入學前，母親就教我學會寫1到100。在每學期暑假時，更提前教我九九乘法表、雞兔問題、植樹問題、乘除運用等。一直到我國小畢業，母親才放下家庭老師角色，因為初中課程，已遠遠超過母親所能夠教導我的程度了。
創業維艱
民國68年，服完兵役要踏入社會，順理成章的進入三勝製帽家族事業。許多家族企業， 兄弟在事業上有所表現後，情感反不如創業之初的堅定，為避免手足之情生變，民國82年， 毅然離開三勝、離開副總的職務，選擇挑戰單飛，步上創業之路，希望能脫離父兄的庇蔭。
「有能力的人，獨立出來也能發展。」是當時離開父兄羽翼下所抱持的信念，我選擇了一條顛簸的創業路，經歷了人生最大、也最艱辛的考驗。
九次創業失敗 負債上億
戴勝益的創業歷程相當戲劇性，三、四、五年級生或許聽過他過去的事業：ㄅㄧㄅㄧ樂園、阿拉丁樂園、呼啦樂園、嘟嘟樂園、台灣金氏世界紀錄博物館、一品肉粽餐飲、全國牛排館、 外蒙古全羊餐廳等。他笑說自己像國父革命一樣，創業到第10次終於成功。
經過「九死一生」（九次不同行業的失敗）的創業，現在回想起來，
猶如一場人生「浩劫」。負債2億元、跑了五年3點半的慘痛經驗，每天到3點半的那一刻， 就像熱鍋螞蟻般難熬，只要過了3點半的「生死關卡」，就像雨過天晴的輕鬆， 因為「明天的債，明天再籌吧」！
「雜亂，沒有專注本業」的創業路，讓他走過宛如現代版「國父革命」的創業路，直到第十次創業， 才終告成功！
人人都有機會當老闆
直到1990年，台中王品第一家店成立，這種不同於半生熟的西式牛排，一種經過特殊牆料醃浸的頂級牛排，一推出就廣受消費者喜愛，除了奠定日後成功基礎， 也藉此複製出西堤與陶板屋等品牌的出現。
全體同仁十餘年努力下，目前王品集團擁有王品、西堤、陶板屋、原燒、聚、ikki， 夏慕尼、品田及丰華等九個品牌，大陸和台灣共有八十多家直營店，去年營業額達35億台幣， 員工人數從早期的幾百人，到現在的4300人，而股東成員從最早期的數十位，擴充到現在約160人。
同仁的「入股分紅」制度和對同仁的徹底授權與尊重，是王品集團成長的二大重要因素，同仁只要努力，「人人都有機會當老闆」，是集團鼓勵和回饋同仁最直接的方式， 同仁創業不須冒著失敗的風險，就可以嚐到「利潤共享」的成果。塑造出一家人般、一起打拚、一起收獲的企業文化。
現在擁有九大品牌的王品集團，一路走來「聚焦」在餐飲事業，以往市場定位以高、 中價位產品為主力，今年更加入低價日式豬排、咖哩的「品田牧場」新品牌，讓消費者有更多元的餐飲選擇。
戴勝益說到做到，如今王品集團在台灣有八個品牌，在中國有三個品牌， 穩居國內連鎖餐飲集團的龍頭寶座，但每天採購的食材、原物料，一律付現，不但大受廠商歡迎，樂於提供最新鮮、品質最佳的材料，且主動降價讓王品具競爭優勢，讓彼此雙贏。
未來，王品集團將計畫一年推出一個新品牌，預計達2030時，王品將在全球設有一萬家店，努力打造新的王品餐飲版圖。
另外，戴勝益分享他解決事情的撇步，是把解決煩惱的方式，分成「上策」、「中策」、「下策」及「放棄」四種方法加以思考，並依數據分析整件事情對自己的損害程度，瞭解問題的嚴重性及急迫性，而不是漫無頭緒的嚇自己。
推動300分競賽 欣賞許文龍的謙遜
他在公司推動「300分」競賽，以爬百嶽、遊百國、吃百家餐廳，鼓勵同仁開闊眼界，自我提升。
今年初起，又增加：每人一輩子一定要吃100顆米其林星餐廳、每年至少參加2次藝文活動，而且不能是公司招待的場次，一定要自己出錢的活動才算，藉以鼓勵同仁提升美感與素養。
戴勝益認為，每個人一生應有一個典範去追尋，他心中的典範人物是奇美董事長許文龍，說起偶像，他開心地分享幾次互動的經驗。有次他邀請許文龍到公司演講，會後80多歲的許文龍，堅持一一和台下的王品主管握手，戴勝益當下很感動，敬佩一個事業如此成功的人，仍這麼謙虛待人， 他期許自己也像許文龍成為一個成功又謙遜的企業家。
