心理學上有一個著名的「瓦倫達效應」。
瓦倫達是美國一個著名的高空走鋼索的表演者，他在一次重大的表演中，不幸失足身亡。
事後，他的妻子說，我知道這一次一定要出事，因為他上場前總是不停地說，這次太重要了，不能失敗；而以前每次成功的表演，他總想著走鋼絲這件事本身，而不去管這件事可能帶來的一切，後來，人們就把專注於事情本身、不患得患失的心態，叫做「瓦倫達心態」。
美國斯史丹佛大學的一項研究證明，人大腦裏的某一圖像會像實際情況那樣刺激人的神經系統，比如當一個高爾夫選手擊球前一再告誡自己「不要把球打進水裏」時，他的大腦裏就會出現「球掉進水裏」的情景，而結果往往事與願違，這時候球大多會掉進水裏，這項研究從另一個方面證實了「瓦倫達心態」。
在現實生活中，人們做任何事情，總是想得太多，太在乎事情所帶來的後果，太在乎別人的閒言碎語、說三道四，太在乎現在和未來的一切，而恰恰忽略了事情的本身。
我們的大腦成天被各種想法塞得滿滿的，在這樣的重壓下，我們能把事情做好嗎？結果，愈害怕出錯，就愈容易出錯。
