悼念完了正準備離開，這時他注意到旁邊墓碑前跪著一位男子。
男子好像特別悲痛，一直說著同一句話：
“你為什麼要死？你為什麼要死？你為什麼要死？”
於是，山姆走到他身邊說：
“先生，我不是想打擾您。不過，對逝去的親人這麼悲痛，我還是第一次見到。這裡埋的是您的什麼人？是您的孩子、還是您的父母？”
男子調整了一下情緒，然後哽咽著說：“他是我妻子的前任丈夫。”
