一架龐大的空中巴士A380正在飛越大西洋時，旁邊剛巧有一架正在附近巡邏的小戰鬥機。
戰鬥機的飛行員減速，與空巴並肩飛行了一下，然後用通訊無線電向空巴的老機長打招呼：「嗨，空巴機長，長途飛行很無聊嗎？保重喔！給你看看難得一見的飛行表演！」
說完，小戰機就開始表演翻滾、加速、衝破音速屏障、迅速爬升、令人眼花撩亂，然後再以令人屏息的速度幾乎俯衝到海平面。
炫技表演完畢，戰機飛回到空巴旁，問：「怎麼樣？佩服吧？」
空巴的老機長回答：「哇嗚！非常令人印象深刻！但是現在看看我的表演吧！」
於是戰機就盯著空巴準備看他表演什麼，但似乎什麼也沒發生，它繼續以相同的速度頑強地直飛。
五分鐘後，空巴老機長跟戰機說：「表演完畢，怎麼樣？佩服吧？」
戰機飛行員困惑地問：「啊？我沒看到什麼表演啊？」
空巴老機長笑著說：「那可惜了，我剛才站起來，伸伸腿，走到飛機後面去了一趟洗手間，然後喝了一杯咖啡，又吃了一個肉桂蛋糕，你可以嗎？」
這故事的寓意是：
世上萬物皆有其優勢與劣勢，智者懂得不以己之劣勢和對方的優勢做比較。
尤其，每個人一生的每一個階段都有其各自的美好，無需羡慕別人的優勢，憂悲自己的劣勢。
當我們年輕時，我們追求表現和速度；但是，隨著年齡的增長和智慧的增長，我們追求轉而舒適與平靜。這就是所謂的S.O.S.
