1、為什麼鈕扣的縫法是《男右女左》？
因為鈕扣剛發明時，價錢很貴，只有富人的衣服上才有扣子。
一般男人多數慣用右手，扣子縫在衣服右邊，用右手穿過左邊扣洞將扣子扣上比較順手。
而有錢的女人是佣人幫她們穿衣的，因此裁縫就將女士的鈕扣縫在左邊，方便佣人。這種男右女左的縫法一直延續到現在。
2、為什麼西方人在信尾加一個《X》，以代表親吻《Kiss》？
歐洲中古時代大部份的人都不識字，簽文件時，就用一個“X”代替簽名。
在“X”上親吻一下，就表示信守承諾的示意。
後來，這個“X”就代表了“Kiss”。
3、為什麼喝酒時，以《碰杯》的方式互相敬酒？
在歐洲，古時候仇家常常用毒酒謀殺對方；請客時，主人又為了讓客人安心飲酒，會先將自己杯中酒倒一點到客人杯中，然後和客人一起喝下去，以証明酒是沒有毒的。
這個倒酒的動作，後來演變成了互相碰杯敬酒的習俗。
4、高爾夫球運動中的《Caddie》(桿弟)，這個字是怎麼得來的？
蘇格蘭瑪莉女王年青時去法國，法皇路易知道瑪莉愛打高爾夫球，就為她建造了第一個在蘇格蘭以外的高爾夫球場。
但為了確保瑪莉打球時的安全，路易僱用軍校學生陪她打球。
軍校學生(Cadet)法文發音是“Ca-day”，後來蘇格蘭人把它改為《Caddie》。
5、為什麼存錢筒都做成《豬》的形狀？
很久以前，歐洲的碗盤等餐具是用一種橘色的黏土做的，這種黏土叫做“pygg”，人們把錢存放在這種黏土做的容器裡，就叫做“Pygg banks”(pygg做的存錢罐)。
後來一位英國工匠，誤以為“pygg”是“pig”，就把存錢筒做成了豬的形狀，以後人們有樣學樣，存錢筒就都做成了豬的樣子。
6、英文《shit》這個字，是怎麼來的？
這個字其實是四個字的縮寫。幾百年前，牛糞是很有價值的貨物。
為了在運船過程中保持牛糞的乾燥性，包裝外面都會註明”Store High In Transit”這四個字，簡寫為《S.H.I.T.》。
7、為什麼小費叫做《tip》？
很久以前，小費是在餐前付的，目的是要受到優先服務，
也就是“To Improve Promptness”(加快)的意思，這就是《tip》的來由。
