2009年年初，蘋果總裁賈伯斯被查出肝硬化晚期。
告訴他，必須馬上進行肝移植，才能挽救他的生命。
賈伯斯同意了肝移植手術方案。
院方馬上為賈伯斯在加利福尼亞州肝移植中心進行登記，等待肝源。
可院方發現，要進行肝移植的病人很多，如果排到賈伯斯至少需要10個月時間。
為了儘快挽救賈伯斯的生命，院方馬上又為賈伯斯在其他州進行了登記。這種跨州登記在美國是法律所允許的，目地是爭分奪秒地搶時間，儘快的挽救病人的生命。
幾個州最快的是田納西州，只需要6個星期就可以等到。
於是，賈伯斯被排到需要肝移植的人中最後一個。
對於急需肝移植的病人，每一秒都顯的那麼寶貴。
於是，有人找到醫院院長杜爾先生，希望杜爾先生行使一下院長的特權，讓賈伯斯插個隊，先給賈伯斯移植。
院長杜爾先生聽了，皺起了眉頭，臉上露出十分驚訝的神色，他兩手一攤，無奈的聳聳肩，說道：
“我哪有這個特權讓賈伯斯插隊？如果讓賈伯斯先移植了，那麼其他病人怎麼辦？一切生命都是平等的啊。”
說情的人，只好鬱鬱寡歡的離開了杜爾的辦公室。
有人又找到田納西州州長菲爾•佈雷德森，希望佈雷德森能幫幫忙，行使一下特權，給院方打個招呼，或寫個批條，讓賈伯斯先移植，否則，賈伯斯會有生命危險。
佈雷德森聽了，臉上的笑容消失了，他嚴肅的說道：
“我哪有那個特權？打個招呼？批個條？什麼意思？我不懂！誰也沒有什麼特權能讓誰先移植，誰可以後移植。一切生命都是平等的，大家只能按排隊秩序來進行。”
有人對賈伯斯悄悄的說道：
“看能不能花點兒錢，給有關人員打點打點，讓您先移植？”
賈伯斯聽了，吃驚的說道：
“這怎麼行？那不是違法了嗎？我的生命和大家的生命是一樣的，大家只能按照秩序來排隊！”
沒有任何人能幫助賈伯斯，包括他自己。
那些排在賈伯斯前面需要肝移植的病人，有的是普通的公司職員，有的是家庭主婦，有的是老人，還有的是失業者，他們都在按照順序排隊，等待可供移植的肝臟。
生命，對每個人來說，都是那麼寶貴。
六個星期後，賈伯斯終於等來了可供移植的肝臟。
可是，由於等待時間太長，賈伯斯的癌細胞已經轉移。
這次移植，只延長了賈伯斯生命2年多點時間。
但是，賈伯斯無怨無悔。
他在生命最後2年多的時間裡，依然為蘋果公司開發出更加新穎的產品，一直到他生命的最後一刻。
以撒森深情的說道：
“生命沒有高低貴賤的區別，任何生命都是平等的。平等不是口號；平等不是作秀；平等更不是交換；它是生活中最生動、具體的體現。
