有一天，他在街上散步，忽然遇到一個衣衫襤褸的窮人向他行乞，請求屠格涅夫給他一點東西吃。
屠格涅夫摸遍身上的所有口袋後對窮人說：「兄弟啊，實在對不起！我沒帶什麼吃的東西。」
