誠實是自己心中的原則
惟雯說故事
喬治是紐約市最優秀的執業律師，生意絡繹不絕，但他有個堅持，就是當他發現委託人隱藏案情或沒有誠實陳述，他便會立即拒絕為此人辯護；就算客戶願意提出更高的價碼聘請他，喬治也不為所動。
許多人笑他傻，總白白錯失大賺一筆的機會，一個朋友忍不住問他：「又沒有人知道他說謊，你為什麼這麼堅持呢？」
喬治微笑著，說出一段往事。
童年時，有一次父母帶我到遊樂場玩，那天天氣很熱，我吵著要吃霜淇淋。
父母帶我到了小吃攤，老闆邊幫我擠著霜淇淋，邊和父母攀談起來，三人聊得很愉快。
回程時，父親突然問母親：「那霜淇淋多少錢呢？」
母親則疑惑的反問：「不是你付的錢嗎？怎麼問我呢？」
結果一問之下，才知道兩人都以為對方付了錢，而老闆自己大概也忘了，我高興的在旁拍手說：「太好囉！吃到免費的霜淇淋！」
但父親突然正色道：「我們折回去吧！該付的錢，還是要付。」
當時我們離開已有一兩個鐘頭，遊樂場早就關了，父親想了想對母親說：「我們明天打電話過去說一聲，再把錢寄過去吧！」
我不解的問：「一支霜淇淋又沒多少錢，老闆一定早就忘啦！」
父親摸摸我的頭說：「不論價值多少、無論有沒有人知道，誠實是我們自己心中的原則，而不是要做給別人看的美德。」
喬治笑著說：「這也就是我如今堅持的原則啊！」
