惟雯說故事
菲比斯是報社裡的小助理，他每天晚上都會留在報社幫社長收拾桌面。第二天社長看見整潔的辦公室，總是忍不住稱讚菲比斯是一個不可多得的好員工，有時候碰見偷懶的清潔工也會斥責：「菲比斯比你們做得好多了。」
同社的編輯和記者也對菲比斯頗有微詞，擔心如果菲比斯被社長提升為編輯，他會騎在他們頭上耀武揚威。
久而久之，菲比斯成了眾人眼中的大敵。
所以，他們不再把作為編輯和記者的訣竅或心得告訴菲比斯，甚至很多文件信函都不再讓菲比斯碰。
有時候菲比斯提出疑問，他們會嘲諷地是回答他：「你不是都懂了嗎？」
其實，菲比斯知道其他人的想法，但是他沒有解釋一句，因為當他來到報社工作之前，父親就已經告誡過他：「路是你自己選擇的，就算受氣都要忍了，因為在你真正成功之前，不會有人在乎你是誰。」
直到有一天，菲比斯似乎真的掉進了水深火熱中……。
編輯雷克早上回到報社，發現辦公桌很整潔，而昨天印好的稿子竟然不翼而飛了，恰好昨天下午報社遇上停電，電腦裡的存稿全失。
他想，菲比斯要向他下狠手了。
雷克沒有坐以待斃，他馬上到茶水間找到昨天值日的清潔工，詢問他菲比斯偷取文件的過程。
清潔工說昨天他打掃時，看見菲比斯從雷克那裡拿走了一遝文件，還說那份文件很重要。
清潔工說完，雷克更加斷定菲比斯偷了他的文件。
所以，雷克在社長來到後就沖進辦公室揭發菲比斯。
社長聽完雷克的話，始終不肯相信菲比斯會做出這樣的事，他們只好到保安室借來昨晚報社的監視錄像，想要一看究竟。
其他幾個編輯也都來到社長辦公室看錄像，連替雷克作證的清潔工也來了。
雷克看著這麼多證人在，心裡不禁要為菲比斯這個可惡的小偷祈禱了。
而此刻，菲比斯還奔波在郊區替社長跑腿的路上。
然而，當錄像播放之後，所有的人都愣住了。
錄像時間是晚上九點十七分，菲比斯從社長辦公室出來，把所有編輯的辦公桌都整理了，甚至連他們沒有時間打理的小盆栽都給澆上了水。
十點零五分，菲比斯來到了雷克的辦公桌前，他蹲下身在旁邊的垃圾桶裡撿起了一疊文件，略略地看了幾頁，此時，清潔工走來，想把垃圾箱裡的廢紙倒掉，但被菲比斯阻止了，他從垃圾箱撿起剩下的檔整理好，然後跟清潔工說了一句：「凡是畫了星號的文件都很重要的，不能扔，你以後要注意了。」
當擴音器裡響起這一段對話，清潔工低下了頭，不敢看雷克一眼。
正在此時，菲比斯回來了，他沒有意識到發生了何事，就拿著昨晚那份檔詢問雷克：「編輯，這份文件對您很重要的吧。」
雷克接過菲比斯手中的稿件，尷尬地乾笑兩聲。
其實，菲比斯很多次在雷克的垃圾桶裡撿回稿件，他平常會很細心地觀察每一位編輯的工作習慣，例如鮑比總是因為錯別字而把稿子槍斃掉，愛麗絲經常把減肥茶倒濕在電腦鍵盤上，而雷克在認真工作時右手肘習慣向右推，所以好幾次都不小心把檔掉到辦公桌右邊的垃圾桶裡，幸好他習慣在重要文件上畫星號，所以稿件才逃過被清潔工扔掉的厄運。
經過那件事，社長更加讚賞菲比斯認真細致的工作態度，所以他提前召開了員工晉升大會。
在會議室裡，社長毫無意外地宣佈提升菲比斯成為編輯，菲比斯還是那個謙遜低調的菲比斯，他站立起來跟在場的員工們說了一段話：
「感謝各位，或許曾經有過我討好別人，裝勤奮的言論，但是在我成功的今天那些都已經不重要了，其實一直以來，我討好的只有自己有限的生命，人的一生看似漫長，其實永遠只有一天，昨天已經回不去，明天存在太多未知，只有在今天，我們才可以利用好時間，去為自己、為大家做更多更多，我想，只要我做好了，就算只擁有今天也已經足夠了。」
菲比斯演講完了，那一刻的會議室很安靜，因為所有的人都沉默了；下一刻的會議室很吵鬧，因為員工們的鼓掌聲震耳欲聾……
