從前有位紳士在鄉間散步，他看見三個乞丐臥在路旁。
這紳士喜歡說笑話，所以他對這些乞丐說：「你們裡頭誰最懶惰？我想把五角錢給那最懶惰的人。」
於是乞丐中有人回答：「把這錢給我，先生，我已經六個月沒有做工了。」
第二個乞丐說：「不行，不行，你必須把這錢給我，先生，因為我已經一年沒有去做工了。」
這兩個乞丐正在爭辯的時候，第三個乞丐疲倦似的，翻轉身來，說道：「到這裡來，先生，替我把錢放在我的衣袋裡吧。」
就這樣他贏 得了這五角錢。
