有一位老婦人獨自在鄉下生活。
她想要給菜園子翻土好種些蕃茄，可是這事做起來太困難了，
因為土太硬，挖不動……
她那唯一的兒子原本是可以幫她的，但兒子現在正在監獄裡服刑。
老婦人在給兒子的信中表達了這種困境，她寫道—-
親愛的兒子：
我覺得真糟糕，因為今年可能無法栽種蕃茄了。我已經老的挖不動園子裡的土了。要是你在，這些麻煩都不存在了，我知道你一定會幫我挖的。
愛你的……媽媽。
過了幾天，老婦人收到了兒子的回信—-
親愛的媽媽：
我願意為您做任何事情，但唯獨挖菜園子的事我不能做…….
那裡是我埋那些贓款的地方啊！
愛您的……兒子。
次日凌晨四點多鐘，調查局的人和當地員警一起來到老婦人的家裡。他們挖遍了整個菜園子，什麼都沒找到！
於是他們向老婦人道歉後離去……
後來老婦人收到了兒子的另一封信—-
親愛的媽媽：
現在您可以開始種您的蕃茄了…… 我只能夠為您做這些了
愛您的…兒子。
……趕緊學著一點吧！
