古希臘哲學家蘇格拉底在開學第一天對學生們說：
「今天我們只學把胳膊儘量往前甩、往後甩，然後每天持續做三百下，大家能做得到嗎？」
學生們笑了，這麼簡單的事，有什麼做不到的？
過了一個月，有百分之九十的同學做到了，
又過了一個月，堅持下來的只剩下八成。
一年過後，只有後來成為古希臘另一位偉大哲學家的柏拉圖做到了。
法國詩人雨果說：「對於那些自信有能力，而不介意暫時失敗的人；懷著百折不撓的意志，堅定目標的人；別人放手，而他仍然堅持，別人後退，而他仍然前進的人；每次跌倒，立刻站起來，每次墜地，反而會像皮球一樣彈得更高的人，沒有所謂失敗。」
一個人成功與否，不完全靠聰明才智，而是在於他能否勤勞奮鬥，堅持到底。
