有一種特質，說起來很抽象，但它卻經常在最後關頭，決定你能否出線，成功蛻變為領導者。
「視野」（vision），是一種眼光、胸襟、格局的混合體，很多時候，它的重要性甚至超過能力，是成功最難跨過的關卡！
理由很簡單，「能力可以培養，但眼光如果無法放遠，注定和企業領導人無緣」。
視野和能力不同。
能力可以經由專業的訓練，快速壓縮成長，然而一個人的格局和眼界，卻需要長時間的累積，甚至歷經挫敗洗禮才會開闊。再有能力的人，若是無法以大局思考，跳脫個人利益，終究還是無法成大事。
當全球化讓市場的競爭界線逐漸消弭，視野更是作為國際人才的基本配備。到底，「視野」的具體內涵是什麼？
亞都麗緻集團總裁嚴長壽，在他的作品《御風而上》中指出，構成個人視野的幾個元素包括：「學習面對失敗」、「不怕改變」、「從小事做起」、「讓自己走出去」、「從高處看問題」、「易位而處的同理心」，完整地闡述了視野涵蓋的面向。
視野可以透過學習培養嗎？答案當然是肯定的。
但關於視野的養成，絕非一蹴可幾。事實上，許多優秀的經理人，也都是經過不斷跌倒、摸索，才逐步打開自己的視野，寬廣的眼界又再度幫助他們攀上生涯的高峰。

別怕弄髒你的手
HOLA總經理蔡玲君，她的工作哲學就是”get your hands dirty”，
任何別人不想做的大事小事，她都願意嘗試。
她在35歲剛當上奧美識別管理顧問公司總經理時，有個案子是替客戶評估，該規畫成靈骨塔還是墓園。當時大腹便便的蔡玲君，一心只想完成工作，毫不忌諱，甚至實際去訪問殯葬業者、蹲在旁邊觀察撿骨工人的作業，了解中式和西式葬法的差別。
所有田野調查，她都沒有假手市調公司，因為經常做超過份內的工作，她的學習比別人多，見識也連帶比別人廣，終於一路做上總經理。對她而言，「多做」一分，格局就多一分寬廣。

計劃性地打開視角
每個位置都會有視角的限制，想要看到360度的世界，就必須要計劃性的改變站立方位，轉換視角。
麗嬰房總經理王國城的體會就是：年輕人應該經常「曝露」在不同的環境，接受多元文化的衝擊，就會培養出大器的想法。
王國城自己，也是從本土到外商，外商再回本土的職涯轉換，不斷提高看問題的高度。從南僑到摩卡咖啡擔任業務行銷處長後，仍有股想繼續往上爬的念頭，讓他選擇降薪、降職到總部在英國倫敦的汽車服務商英之傑（Inchcape）。
「在外商我學習到國際化公司是如何運作，即使職位變低、薪水變少，但我覺得世界變更大，」他說。再從外商回到本土企業，王國城的心境和眼界完全不同。
離開英之傑時，王國城已是消費品部的總經理，但他認為，即便做到台灣區總經理，也只是一個分公司。歷練過後再回到本土企業，「你就是總部，會發現你的高度更高。」
王國城床頭常擺著幾本古書，如《論語》、《古文觀止》、《老子》、《莊子》等，以古人為師，是他培養視野的另一獨門心法。
他拿出抄滿詩句的隨身筆記說：「主管經常需要做一些複雜的決策，更需要一顆澄明與安靜的心，不能心浮氣躁，做決定時談笑用兵，也是一個人的氣度。」

不隨波逐流、不從眾
視野不僅要廣，更要深。事實上，它的另外一面就是「洞見」，能夠見人所不能見。
從惠普出身的研華科技董事長劉克振，創業之初就決定從系統整合服務切入。1980年代，台灣PC產業爆發性成長，但市場炒得再熱，都沒有改變劉克振堅持做系統整合的初衷。
創業初期，研華只是不到5人的小公司，太太還充當公司的會計師。一路走來，低調如一的劉克振，原本和創業夥伴約定，「公司永遠不要超過50人。」然而專注、熱情，加上獨到的眼光，研華如今已經是擁有近千名員工的世界性工業電腦龍頭。
問他為什麼年輕時，就能擁有這樣的眼光，能見人所不能見？
劉克振回答：「憑著對工作的熱情和專注，加上不斷和外界接觸，眼光就會慢慢磨練出來。」
在他眼中，視野代表著不跟外界起舞，也不隨波逐流。
統一超商總經理徐重仁也認為：「視野很重要，但熱情更重要，多學習、多觀察，就會培養出應有的深度，這些都是環環相扣的。」

把”LV”當作daily job
台灣微軟總經理蔡恩全，進入微軟工作至今12年，他自認個性屬於「溫良恭儉讓」，但位階提高後，就必須逼迫自己更融入國際舞台。
「每年1月，各地區的總經理都要飛到西雅圖總部接受績效評估，一層一層檢視，像剝洋蔥一樣，」蔡恩全笑說。現在他更努力練英語，每天利用車上時間聽CNN，「這是我的daily job，參加全球會議時，和國際人才競爭，英語不只要講到別人聽得懂，用字遣詞都要相當精準，才不會造成誤解。」
林東民有感而發說，台灣年輕人的視野大多關注在島內，沒有到國外工作的企圖心。他看到新加坡Discovery總部很多同事，都想到國外工作，不會自我侷限。的確，企圖心有多大，眼界就有多大。
加入Discovery之前，留日背景的林東民，對英文一竅不通。
前2年遇到要向老外做簡報時，甚至還必須依靠長官為他翻譯。
不服輸的他，知道老外看中的是他在廣告公司、擔任緯來日本台頻道總監多年的行銷經驗，儘管英語不輪轉，還是勇敢挑戰超出自己能力的職務，現在將台灣區Discovery頻道經營得令人刮目相看。
嚴長壽曾說，在他的人生過程中，好幾度他總以為已到達某種高峰，誰知道越往前走，一山又比一山高。
即便是眼光如此卓越之人，都沒有自滿於現狀，時時刻刻提醒自己要用更宏觀的角度看事情，不斷學習、自我歷練，平凡如你我，又怎能再繼續畫地自限？
對個人來說，很多當紅的工作技巧、知識，都可能因為環境變遷而過時，只有視野，工作愈久、職位愈高，愈發揮關鍵影響力。
而且，你絕不能等到需要時才開始培養。
台中市長胡志強認為，視野是知識、經驗和「善意」的累積。真正的視野要能讓人佩服，有「利他」的想法，光是累積知識與經驗，並不足以構成視野。胡志強說：學習視野，要有「三不政策」
- 不受現有條件限制：下決定不能在既有條件下打轉。
有看法，未必有視野。要能夠做到超越，讓人意想不到的判斷，才是值得眾人追隨的視野。
- 不在既有思考打轉：很多人天天在眼前事情上打轉，但看事情要 宏觀，看得長、遠、寬、大，才能協助拓展思考。
- 不受自我利益誘導：個人若是受私心影響，事情就會被看小。
視野，也是成功的關鍵因素，若只有能力而無視野，就只會埋頭苦幹。
擔任台中市長期間，他曾極力爭取古根漢美術館在台中興建分館，
「建築，可以改變城市的面貌」，這是他當時的遠見。
儘管最後功敗垂成，他以雨果說的一句話自我勉勵：「沒有一個力量可以阻擋成熟的理念。」興建不成，恐怕是時機尚未成熟。
他提醒年輕人，應隨著知識與經驗累積，將理想往上推，不要眼光只從現實面考量事情。
