有一個人因再也無法忍受他人的抨擊、噓聲、冷落，便決定隱世獨立，希望修練自己成為一個人人喜歡的人、不會再讓人挑剔自己……。
經過多年的努力修行，這個隱士深信自己已經可以贏得眾人的心了，他決定再涉紅塵。
正當他洋洋自得行進時，卻突然聽到「哇」的一聲尖叫，原來是一隻青蛙張大充滿敵意的雙眼怒喊著：
「喂！怎麼那麼粗心大意，差點就踏到我了……。」
他提醒自己，雖然自己毫無惡意，但還是要小心一點，絕不可隨便侵犯別人。於是，他更小心翼翼地走。
走了一陣子，當他覺得累了，坐在大石頭上閉目養神時，卻聽到一陣噓鬧嘈雜聲，張眼一看，遠處正圍著一群牧羊的小孩對著他嘲笑：
「那個人穿的好驢哦！」
他心想：「為什麼連小孩都不放過我呢？我又沒招惹他們」；儘管，他一再對自己說，「大人不與小孩鬥」，但是心裡卻滿不是滋味！
最後，經過一間農舍，他因口渴便輕輕敲門，想要杯水喝；
然而，那位老農婦卻只半開著門，露出頭來大聲吼著：
「走開，你別想『又』來騙我們！」
隱士忙爭辯著：「上次騙你們的不是我！」
但是，這位老農婦卻不容分說的尖叫「走開」，便「砰」的一聲，用力關上門。
這位隱士只得黯然離開，沿途上心中不禁深有所悟：
「真的，只要活一天，就無法去除別人對你有不同的看法！」
這個人的經歷正說明：我們生活在一個多元化的世界，充滿人我相處的複雜性，我們必須有足夠的勇氣與韌性，面對不同的聲音。
不管你多努力、多細心，總是會有人認為你侵犯他們而反彈（如青蛙大叫），或無緣無故地嘲諷你（如那些小孩的謾罵），甚至毫不客氣地排擠你（如那老農婦下逐客令）。或許，也「可能」有人給你掌聲，但是別忘記，「一定」會有人給你噓聲的。
所以，我們必須了解並接受一個殘酷的事實：你無法取悅每一個人都喜歡你，你也無法讓大家都稱讚你；
這樣，你才有勇氣建立內在的自我肯定，並告訴自己：
不管別人喜歡與否，我都可以活得很自在！
