「內容為王」 是影音串流平台贏家的真理

你曾計算過，一天盯著螢幕的時間，是電視或手機哪個時間長？
根據媒體報導，2019年全球使用手機時間正式超過電視，其中最大關鍵在於越來越多人用手機、iPad追劇、看 YouTube影片。
拜數位科技、行動網路之賜，讓我們正式進入「行動影音」時代，隨時隨地透過小螢幕，選擇我們想看的影視內容。
而除了硬體設備的進化，影音產業更重要的變革是來自「OTT」的衝擊！究竟，什麼是OTT？你今天用 OTT了嗎？
一、何謂影音串流平台OTT (Over the top) 服務？
「OTT 影音串流平台」的OTT是指「over the top」的定義：意思就是「要求太多，過頭了，太誇大」。在籃球運動術語中，over-the-top 是頂上傳球的意思。
而 OTT Media Services 是透過網際網路傳輸的視頻服務，終端可以是各種數位接收器，如數位電視、筆電、智慧型手機等裝置，影音平台藉由 OTT 的技術帶來了串流媒體的盛行與立即接收的觀影服務。換言之，影音訊息服務是在我們頭上的無線網路傳來傳去，並且快速、誇張與大量地運行著。
歐盟電子通訊規管機構 2016年把 OTT定義為，透過網際網路向終端使用者提供的內容、服務或應用，也就是透過公共網際網路所提供的任何事物都是 OTT 服務。
也有研究者把它視為傳統廣播電視或 Internet Protocol Television（IPTV）服務型 態的延伸，但 IPTV是用寬頻網路作為介質傳送電視資訊的一種系統，把廣播節目透過寬頻上的網際協定向訂戶傳遞數位電視服務。
影音串流平台是指影音的內容、服務建構在網路基礎之上，不需要依靠電信運營商額外的支援。舉例來說，我們過去要依賴電信商的服務才可以撥打市話、手機以聯繫親友。然而，現在只要連線到網路，就可以透過 Skype、Line、微信等軟體來撥打語音、視訊電話。
如果聯想到影音平台上，就是我們不需要架設有線電視，也可以透過 OTT 平台來觀看連續劇、電影、電視節目等等。目前台灣最夯的 YouTube， 也屬於 OTT 影音平台的一種。
相較於傳統的有線電視、數位機上盒，OTT 擁有更多的優點，例如﹕
1、隨選視訊—–用戶可在任何時間點播放，並擁有更高自由度的功能，像是指定集數、回放及快轉﹔
2、打破觀看空間限制—–不論透過智慧型手機、平板、電腦等等，隨時隨地都可以觀賞﹔
3、減少等候時間—–過去要完整下載整部影片才能觀看，不過有了串流技術 (Streaming) 後，配合用戶的觀看進度，分批傳輸影片到用戶端，降低用戶等候時間、節省影片儲存空間。
因此，OTT 服務正逐漸改變著你我的生活型態。
二、影音串流平台侵蝕傳統電視市場
1939年，電視出現在人類的生活當中，從最初的黑白影像，經過80年的發展，電視已可以提供各種彩色、多元的節目，為我們的生活帶來更多樂趣。
自2005年後，網路上開始出現各種影音串流平台，包含2005年成立YouTube、2007年成立的 Netflix、2011年的 hulu、2013 年的prime video，與 2019年成立的 Disney+、YouTube Premium 等。
這些影音串流平台改寫了全球影視產業的遊戲規則。同時，也快速影響我們的影音瀏覽習慣，並在短時間內使市佔率達到32%。每日平均瀏覽時間，也於2019年超越傳統的電視體驗。
Vanityfair 雜誌更聲稱「電視已死⋯⋯內容之戰已達到高點，這場戰役將永遠改變電視產業」。 事實上，美國有線電視用戶的剪線潮逐年攀升，根據 eMarketer 2018 年的調查預 測，至 2022年會有超過五分之一的有線電視使用者剪線，並轉為線上平台潛在的訂閱者。
2019年Vorhaus 進一步研究，美國剪線潮持續攀升，而18 ∼ 34 歲的年輕世代尤為高峰，這個世代也是智慧型手機與筆電 （或個人電腦）的重度使用者。
另美國有線電視的用戶剪線潮大幅攀 升，這現象不僅發生在美國。事實上，由於全球OTT平台的競爭，不論是跨國性或是本土性都影響到有線電視的成長。
這些影音串流平台究竟有什麼特色與魅力，讓它在短短幾年內需求暴增，並快速侵蝕傳統電視市場？
我們剖析出以下幾個因素：
◎新型態平台與原創內容：
除了提供授權影集外，這些影音串流平台也會創造獨家原創內容，使它們得以提供比電視更加多樣化的影片內容。
◎更優質的網路環境：
網路科技持續進步（包含 4G、5G等），讓民眾可以隨時、隨地、無延遲的體驗這些線上影音串流平台節目。
◎移動設備發展快速：
智能手機功能日益強大，讓人們可輕易使用它們進行影音串流的觀看。
◎影音製作大眾化：
每個人皆可創造獨一無二的影音視頻（如抖音）內容，並上傳與全世界的人們進行分享。
◎受新冠肺炎疫情催化：
2020年受到新冠肺炎疫情的影響，民眾使用付費影音平台的頻率大幅提升，甚至被譽為影音媒體激戰的一年，26%的民眾認為這些付費平台提供了具價值性的影音內容。
如此龐大的商機也吸引越來越多的企業進軍這個市場，至今，網路上約有 270多個影音串流平台。這樣的現象也讓我們注意到，影音串流的市場看似龐大，但在高度競爭的情況下，想在產業中佔有一席之位絕非易事。
尤其，就算每個平台所重視與推廣的內容不同（如：電視節目、遊戲、廣播、社群影片…），大多數的民眾還是主要選擇訂閱以下幾個平台：Netflix、Prime Video、Disney+、Apple TV+、YouTube Premium 等。
三、影音串流平台侵蝕電影院市場
人工智能、影音串流平台的崛起，使得全球影視工業走向了「平台革命」。
全球影視產業因為平台的竄起，重劃經濟藍圖，各家 OTT（over-the-top）業者敲起戰鼓，迫使許多電影從院線上映轉為線上發行，尤其是影音串流平台巨頭的自製原創電影更以線上發行為主。
這衝擊了製作方與發行方行銷策略的決定，連帶對映演方的院線、票房紀錄、觀眾觀影行為等都有巨大的影響，更衝擊各大影展競賽的規則審議，前所未有地掀起了各大影展主辦單位針對參賽權的辯論。
由於串流媒體 （streaming media）平台無國界的特性，使得這一波平台革命不僅僅是西方各大影音平台的競爭問題，更是全球性議題，連帶地衝擊全球各區域與各國電影產業的未來發展趨勢。
OTT 服務最大的優點是使用者可以透過網路，直接超越時空限制，運用多元載具隨時隨地接取服務，特色是不需要有固定的網路協定位址，即使是在公眾網際網路上，也能直接向終端消費者傳遞內容並收取費用。 因此 OTT服務只需要透過互聯網就可以傳送資訊，也有別於需要申領牌照的行業，如有線電視、廣播或衛星電視等傳統媒體。
一般來說，經營 OTT 雖不需領有牌照，但內容仍然受到版權法的規限，不容未獲授權節目上架並且提供直播。也有人把 OTT 稱為串流服務、線上影音服務、Internet TV、 TV over Broadband 或 OTT TV。
換言之，OTT平台可以透過各樣管道跳過電影發行和映演過程直接接觸觀眾，改變原來電影產業價值循環的首輪戲院接觸觀眾的現場，不再是大螢幕而是各樣的小螢幕，可以從各樣內容投資或產製者，或平台業者、網路營運者、使用者，直接從觀眾端獲取價值。
由於OTT平台生態圈崩解了傳統的產業結構，又使得消費者／使用者改變過去的習慣，因此OTT平台也稱為「破壞式創新」或「顛覆式創新」技術。
傳統電影產業鏈模式多半從製作到發行商，發行商再到院線，院線之後發行 DVD，上電視頻道、再上網路，每一個環節各自獨立，觀眾看到影片可能是上戲院，也可能租借或購買DVD，或者在電視頻道看見，最後才在網路上看見電影，這是傳統產業鏈模式。
但影音平台的商業模式完全不同。以2家影音串流平台為例，Amazon Prime Video 的自製原創是平台與製片公司合作拍片，而自己就是發行商，上院線二、三個月後就線上獨家播映。Netflix 的線上映演更是縮短時程，自製原創電影結合了製片、發行、映演三者，院線上映只為了參加影展，可有可無。也就是說，Netflix 的平台策略，只要影片一完成，觀眾馬上可以在 Netflix 線上觀看。
從剪線潮到進攻電影，由於網路科技覆蓋全球，地球村成為OTT業者爭相競逐的市場，有人稱影音平台致勝關鍵是「內容為王」之戰。
尤其是目前擁有眾多訂戶的 Netflix 正以不按牌理出牌的線上映演策略，顛覆了電影產業的生態，挑戰電影產業價值鏈。作為電影的發行商，Netflix 走出了一條與傳統發行商不同的道路，堅持線上映演為主的發行，或線上、線下同步上映，使得電影發行商人人自危。
以電影產業價值鏈而言，美商影片發行有一定的銷售窗口周期，以戲院放映為電影銷售的時程約莫 3 ∼ 6個月，這時期除了戲院之外，其餘通路不得露出，以確保電影共享經驗、體驗式接收的傳播型態。換言之，這 3 ∼ 6個月對於電影發行 和映演業有保護作用，而 Netflix 堅持線上映演為主的發行或線上、線下同步上 映的方式，打破這樣的銷售保護的窗口帶，對於電影業者而言，等於是挑戰了電 影院的共享體驗，因此造成影人的極力反彈。
對於電影人來說，過了這個戲院的保護上映期，其後再上二輪戲院、DVD、電視頻道或影音串流的點選模式是常態。而這些後續的窗口銷售，便是以協商版權銷 售時間彈性較高，在美商發行端的主導權也較高的方式運作。
但是隨著網路和電視頻道的發達，電影首輪院線發行的時間已經日趨縮短至3 個月左右，而 Netflix 的發行策略卻強調透過線上點選，把影片送到訂戶眼前，甚至沒有電影院的地方，這是許多導演願意與 Netflix合作的誘因。所以Netflix等於要突破院線上映的保護期，改變電影產業價值生產鏈的模式。
OTT 平台引以為傲的是提供給閱聽人 的服務，是具有品質保證的內容、個人化 的服務，且兼具時間上的便利性。
而美國大片商走完全商業主義路線，根據票房大數據走向製作電影，使得小製作影片會考慮與影音平台合作。
然而大螢幕的院線映演與各種裝置的小螢幕看片，二者的確有差別。過去電影在戲院映演的集體共享經驗，是否會新興平台世代的來臨而被輕忽，Netflix 打 破慣例的映演策略帶來重新省思電影本質 的討論，如院線將何去何從？影展將如何定義參展資格？電影製片、導演、發行商如何思考未來產業價值鏈的發展？
這些都是 OTT平台帶給電影產業的重大衝擊。
四、串流媒體龍頭是網飛（Netflix）
影音串流平台從2007年就已經開始發展，網飛（Netflix）和亞馬遜早就佔領串流媒體先機，並且最初發展的市場就是娛樂、影視產業相當發達的美國。發展至今，對於傳統有線電視、電影行業已經造成巨大的影響。
越來越多的人選擇了「掐線」（掐斷有線電視電纜），轉往訂閱 Netflix、Hulu、Amazon Prime Video 等串流頻道。並且，你我的休閒時間正不知不覺地受到這些串流媒體的分食。
全球串流影片訂閱龍頭Netflix是由里德•哈斯廷斯 (Reed Hastings) 創辦於 1997年，提供全球影音串流的 OTT服務，是一間網路隨選影音串流的 OTT服務公司。提供各式類型的連續劇、紀錄片、電影，總部位於美國加州的洛思加圖斯 (Los Gatos) ﹔業務範圍超過190個國家。依Netflix 2021年第三季的財報，顯示該季締造了75億美元的營收，比去年同期成長16%，淨收入為14.5億美元，每股盈餘為3.19美元，高於去年同期的1.74美元。此外，該季新增了440萬名訂閱用戶，高於去年同期的220萬名或上一季的150萬名，該季Netflix的全球總訂閱用戶數為2.14億。
不過，在成為影音串流 OTT 服務的領導公司之前，Netflix成立初期其實是一間線上租借 DVD 的租賃公司。用戶可以建立屬於自己的影片租借清單，影片光碟將從各地區的倉庫，經由美國郵政系統寄送至收件地址，採取線上下單、線下郵寄的商業模式。
與當時的影音租片龍頭百視達（Blockbuster）競爭影片租賃市場，只是，當時正好處於錄影帶（VHS）與 DVD 的格式之爭，加上因百視達大股東與管理層內鬥
，最終導致百視達與對手競爭失利，在 2010年9月宣布破產。
隨著網路的普及、頻寬的增加，Netflix了解到影音租賃產業未來將成為另一夕陽產業，加上看到 YouTube 的流行，Netflix 便果斷決定向它學習，因此 Netflix嘗試著在線上租借 DVD業務外，增加串流服務，2007年推出可以在電腦觀看線上串流影片服務。
（一）Netflix跨入串流服務業務模式
第一款串流媒體產品叫Watch Now ，它徹底改變Netflix業務模式。
在 2010 年 9 月首次針對美國以外的市場提供網路串流服務，而 Netflix 第一個進軍的國際市場就是加拿大。
之後，每年都進軍新的海外市場，帶動海外付費會員及營收高速地成長。
在 2016年後，除了少數爭議性地區(中國、克里米亞、北韓、敘利亞)外，基本上算是完成了全球布局的版圖，而 Netflix 也在 2016年初正式在台灣推出服務。
2017年Netflix 的國際會員人數正式超越美國本土人數。由於受美國本土串流平台高度競爭的影響下，美國付費會員成長明顯趨緩，海外業務已成為其核心重點之一。畢竟串流媒體產業的用戶成長可以產生規模經濟效果，進而分攤內容投入的成本、提升營收。
（二）自製內容才是王道
Starz 電視台從索尼、迪士尼購買了付費電視節目版權及網路發布版權。
在 2008 年，Netflix與Starz 電視台簽下 4 年授權合約，為它提供 2500 部電影、電視節目，其中也包含了部份的迪士尼、索尼、皮克斯製作之內容。
不過，Starz 電視台卻在 2011 年合約到期後就宣布不再向 Netflix 提供新的內容。導火線來自於 Starz 電視台希望在合約期滿後提高授權金。此舉也導致該季度 Netflix 流失近 80 萬的會員人數。
Netflix 開始意識到影片內容受到上游供應商所牢牢掌控著，便在 2011年開始了自製內容的計畫。2013 年 2 月正式發行第一部原創影集《紙牌屋》(House of Cards) 造成轟動，紙牌屋的誕生被視為是 Netflix 成長的轉捩點，它為 Netflix 帶來了付費用戶數大量地增長。
自從2013年推出《紙牌屋》起，Netflix 與獨立製作公司合作並不斷地投入原創性內容的製作，主要目的還是為了擺脫對於好萊塢製片廠、其他影視內容供應商的依賴。一方面是因為在版權價格十分昂貴的情況下，Netflix 了解到購買版權以吸引付費用戶不是長久之計。加上如果影片不在 Netflix 上獨家播放，就無法與其他串流平台作出內容差異化，因此 Netflix 才開啟了自產自銷的道路。
Netflix 原創影片《羅馬》（Roma）在 2019 年的第 91 屆奧斯卡頒獎禮上奪下了最佳導演、最佳攝影、最佳外語片三項大獎，是 Netflix 第一部獲得奧斯卡最佳電影提名的作品。
同時，也是第一部沒有票房紀錄卻奪下小金人的電影。
這項殊榮相當具有代表性，因為這證明了其實串流平台也是有能力製作及發行優質的影片。而且，好的電影不需要藉由電影院大規模地上映，也可以獲得好評。
對於那些只想看優質內容卻對視聽體驗沒有那麼要求的觀眾來說，Netflix 提供了更便利的吸引力。因此，原創性影片正是 Netflix 維持競爭優勢的關鍵護城河，身為串流媒體的龍頭正式與主流的電影院線體系較勁。
五、影音串流平台流量大，吸引跨界競爭者
根據研調機構 Digital TV Research 的資料，全球線上電視戲劇及電影 OTT 產業規模預估 2023 年將達 1293 億美元，較 2017 年的 533 億美元成長翻倍，年複合成長率高達 16%。由於，產業的高速成長也吸引眾多的廠商紛紛推出自己的影音串流平台來搶食這塊大餅。例如: 蘋果的「Apple TV+」、亞馬遜的「Amazon Prime Video」、迪士尼的「Disney+」、HBO 的「HBO Max」、Hulu、CBS、Comcast和CNN的母公司華納媒體，全都跨足串流市場。
此外，根據 Comscore 的2019年3月的 The State of OTT報告，全美約有6400萬個家庭使用 OTT 影音服務。在有使用 OTT 服務的美國家庭中，Netflix 滲透率高達 75%。其次，才是 YouTube、Amazon、Hulu。以上 4 個主要平台，囊括了近 79% 的使用 OTT服務時間，家庭每月平均觀看時間大約為 86小時。
除了 Netflix 之外，產業的高速成長也吸引眾多的廠商紛紛推出自己的影音串流平台來搶食這塊大餅。例如: 蘋果的「Apple TV+」、亞馬遜的「Amazon Prime Video」、迪士尼的「Disney+」、HBO 的「HBO Max」、Hulu 等等。
在 OTT 影音市場影響用戶黏著度的關鍵因素不外乎是「價格」及「內容」。
1、但從價格來看，Netflix與主要競爭對手比較，並無優勢。
2、而從內容來看，雖然 Netflix 目前正致力於提高自製內容的比重，但若根據 Netflix 用戶透過「網頁」觀看各影集的次數所計算出來的比重，可以發現觀看次數比重排名前面的影集幾乎都是由他廠授權，這一旦內容終止授權並且被收回版權，Netflix 將會流失特定的觀眾目前可以確定的是迪士尼與 Netflix 的內容授權合約將於 2019 年到期終止。到時候 Netflix 平台將撤下所有迪士尼旗下品牌，如漫威影業、盧卡斯影業、皮克斯動畫工作室、迪士尼動畫工作室，加上迪士尼也預計在旗下媒體封殺關於 Netflix 的廣告。
而即使其他內容供應商不一定會收回授權，不過可能針對在 Netflix 上熱播的內容而收取更高的授權金，這對於 Netflix 來說也不是件好事。
現今，各串流平台不是推出免費促銷活動就是低價搶奪用戶，因此 Netflix 正應面臨著削價競爭的環境。
目前串流產業已朝向削價競爭、免費服務搶市佔率的趨勢。也正因為如此，Netflix 更加積極推出原創自製內容。
同時，開拓海外市場，像是亞洲地區，打造亞洲原創內容如韓國喪屍劇《李屍朝鮮》、台灣驚悚類型電視劇《罪夢者》等等…，也是 Netflix 製作的首部華語電視劇。
另外也藉由擴增動畫陣容持續吸引、擴大用戶族群，做好萬全準備並迎接即將到來的串流影音平台之戰。
最後，和蘋果、迪士尼相比，串流先行者網飛的地位頗尷尬。它既無蘋果那樣的手機平台，又無迪士尼的海量著名內容。
而且，網飛幾乎沒有什麼「難以替代」的優勢。用戶用慣了臉書、亞馬遜電商、蘋果手機，改用其他平台的機會成本很高。但在串流影音，用戶由網飛轉看其他平台，就像拿電視遙控器從 A台換到 B 台一樣，機會成本相對較低。從「唯一」變「其中之一」，不僅意味著網飛地位的轉變，也代表「跨界競爭」的來臨。
加上原本在產業內 Netflix 的產品定價偏高，若未來面臨高度競爭導致付費會員人數成長不如預期的情況下，也無法再次利用漲價策略刺激營收。
甚至，可能要調降定價、花費更多資源在提供多元化內容以提高客戶黏著度
更重要的是，蘋果、迪士尼或網飛，都在競爭用戶時間，但實際上他們的對手遠不止此：YouTube 的網紅、臉書的直播、索尼的 PS4 或任天堂 Switch 遊戲機，都在搶眼球。
正如網飛創辦人哈斯汀（Reed Hastings）說，他們的最大對手，其實是各種能競爭消費者時間的活動。各式娛樂隨手可得，消費者為什麼不去看直播、玩遊戲，而要花時間看影集？這才是這些串流媒體龍頭的挑戰。
六、「內容為王」 是影音串流平台戰局中永遠的真理
OTT市場這幾年成長力道，有目共睹。基本上，OTT影音串流平台仍有野蠻成長空間，平台大戰雖開打，但增量將從傳統電視產業、電影院產業掠奪，競爭未達高原期之前，影音串流平台之間競爭尚不是一場零和遊戲。
「你最近追了 Netflix 的新影集了嗎？」成為朋友之間的共同話題。
如今，收看 OTT 內容逐漸成為我們生活一部分。
最近美國電影學會（American Film Institute）選出 2019年「十大影集」、「十大電影」名單，其中屬於OTT平台製作的內容，就高達5部。OTT不斷推出原創的好菜，最直接的影響就是顛覆影視產業生態。
發展至今，OTT 因彈性閱聽、豐富內容，影音串流服務的商機還在持續增長，尤其近年5G通訊網路商轉，將有助 OTT觀看品質。就有業者預估，全球影音串流的訂戶數2021 年將突破 10億戶大關，龐大商機讓全球 OTT服務供應商，都想分一杯羹。
已有研調機構看好，5年後Disney+將超越NETFLIX成為訂閱數最多的串流影音平台。因調查預測，2026年，排名第1的串流影音平台將是Disney+，訂閱數可達2.842億戶，超越目前最受歡迎的 Netflix，預計NETFLIX在5年後訂閱數將達2.707億戶。
IT之家也報導，研究機構還預計，亞馬遜Prime Video的訂閱用戶數也將大幅成長，預計在2026年達到2.434億戶，位居第3；大陸的愛奇藝預計將達7680萬訂戶排名第4，第5名是HBO Max，為7630萬戶，Apple TV+預估訂閱數3560萬。
而OTT產業之爭更是各家知識產權內容之戰。即串流媒體之戰就在「內容為王」之戰。當Apple TV＋、 Disney＋、HBO Max、NBC等進入了影音串流平台的戰場，即展開始一場爭奪傳統電影產業鏈之戰。
此外，越來越多用戶都不只訂閱一個影音串流平台，而消費者的選擇來自於各影音平台的產品區隔。換言之，「內容為王」 是影音串流平台戰局中永遠的真理。
