斷了弦，就以剩餘的弦繼續演奏，也能演奏出美麗的凱歌。
帕卡林尼是義大利很有名的小提琴家，很喜歡自己作曲然後自己演奏。
為了凸顯自己造詣非凡，帕卡林尼所創作的樂曲難度都非常高，好讓自己在首次發表樂曲的演奏會上，有機會炫耀自己的演奏技巧。
有一次在他的新曲演奏會中，他獨奏的曲子高音低調轉折太大，演奏到一半時一根弦因承受不了急轉的壓力，而突然斷掉了。
當時全場觀眾都一片靜默，要看帕卡林尼如何處理這個棘手的問題。
帕卡林尼調整了剩下的三根弦，向聽眾一鞠躬，又繼續演奏。
聽眾都很驚訝的發現，三根弦的演奏音質純正優美，完全不像是少了一根弦的小提琴所拉出的聲音，所以都不得不佩服帕卡林尼的表現。
可是演奏又進行一陣子時，很不幸地又有一根弦斷裂，有些聽眾開始議論紛紛，
認為帕卡林尼這回真的把曲子寫得太難了。
如果這時帕卡林尼決定不繼續演奏，相信應該有一半的聽眾會原諒他，不會要求退票。
但是帕卡林尼還是從容不迫地調整了一下兩根弦，鞠躬道歉後又開始演奏，現場聽眾都因為讚歎他從容不迫的表現，而給他熱烈的掌聲鼓勵。
可是演奏到快結束時，不可思議的事卻發生了，帕卡林尼又拉斷了一根弦！
每位聽眾都面色凝重，這時他如果停止演奏，沒有人會追究。
帕卡林尼停頓了一下，看看自己的小提琴，突然間用最後一根弦把曲子拉完，興奮的舉起小提琴大聲叫道：『一根弦的帕卡林尼！』(『One String and Pacalini!』)
當時全場聽眾全體起立，給帕卡林尼最熱烈的掌聲，歷久不衰。
許多音樂評論家都認為這是帕卡林尼一生中最精采的一次演出。
這個故事後來也成為義大利小學生必讀的歷史故事。
現在的小提琴家在獨奏這首曲子時，會故意在當初帕卡林尼斷弦的章節把弦扯
斷，直到最後只剩一根弦來做為結束。
這個故事讓我想起，遇到困難而產生恐懼並不嚴重，問題是我們要被恐懼所征服，還是要化恐懼為力量，這完全系於自己的一念之間。
卡內基先生越花時間研究那些有成就的人，他就越相信成功大部分的關鍵是因為困難激發了人的潛力。
美國名心理學家威廉．詹姆士也曾說過：『面對困難時，只要將一個人內心的態度由恐懼轉為奮鬥的意志，就能克服任何障礙。』
如果我們真的認為現在所遭遇到的挫折，沒有任何轉變的希望，即使不成功，我們努力的過程就已經強迫自己向前看，而不是原地踏步在後悔，這已經是一種進步。
想辦法驅除消極的想法，並用積極的思考取代。由於努力會使我們忙碌，所以也不會有時間與心思去憂傷過去發生的事了。
生命如果真是一帆風順，可能我們將會被自己的哈欠淹沒；懂得欣賞挫折與磨難，才真正懂得品嘗生命的原味。所以當我們遭遇到挫折時，要記得發揮帕卡林尼的精神：斷了弦，就以剩餘的弦繼續演奏，也能演奏出美好的凱歌。
生命就像是堅持到最後一刻的最後一根弦，越是困難反而越能演奏出精采的生活樂章。
